The best year for gold shown on this table was 1979 with an average gain across all nine currencies of 127.5%. The worst year followed just two years after with an average loss of 25.1%. Since 1971 gold has performed best in Indian rupees with an average yearly performance of 14.8% and worst in Swiss francs with a gain of 6.8%.
